Justify

Does the heart justify its body?

When bodily pain covers the feelings underneath

The needle, the knife, and the love they don’t know

Is it ok if this justification only comes in sleep?

Do people justify society?

When they pay just to be the same

When society dominates people

Is their uniqueness covered shame?

Will you justify my love?

If I give you my heart and lend you my hand

Will you be there forevermore

When I grow old and can barely stand?

Does the end justify the beginning?

And the middle – bad as it may be

Is the result worth its actions

Filled with sadness or filled with glee?

My Love Knot

I have this knot you cannot see

This pain that’s deep inside of me

This heavy feeling in my chest

This open wound amongst my breast.

My knot never goes away

I fear forever it will stay.

It first came to me when you said “goodbye”

I felt this pain from my first sigh…

Apart from you

And love that felt true.

Now this knot won’t leave me be…

A reminder of you and again I weep.

And She Was Gone by the TV character Ginger Foutley

She chose to walk alone.
Though others wondered why.
Refused to look before her,
Kept eyes cast upwards,
Towards the sky.

She didn’t have companions.
No need for earthly things.
Only wanted freedom,
From what she felt were puppet strings.

She longed to be a bird.
That she might fly away.
She pitied every blade of grass
For planted they would stay.

She longed to be a flame.
That brightly danced alone.
Felt jealous of the steam
That made the air its only home.

Some say she wished too hard.
Some say she wished too long.
But we awoke one autumn day
To find that she was gone.

Some say she wished too hard.
Some say she wished too long.
But we awoke one autumn day
To find that she was gone.

The trees, they say, stood witness.
The sky refused to tell.
But someone who had seen it
Said the story played out well.

She spread her arms out wide.
Breathed in the break of dawn.
She just let go of all she held…

And then she was gone.
