Every day is a new day to work towards success, no matter how small the step you take or habit you are trying build. The following are 7 habits of highly successful people. Seven habits you can start building today.

Seven Habits of Highly Successful People

  1. Successful people plan their day

Whether you plan your days at the beginning of the week, the night before or the morning of, having a plan is the first step to a productive day. After all, it is easy to get nothing done if you don’t have a plan in place. Daily to-do lists are also great for keeping your day on track when a lot needs to get done.

Note: It is important to keep in mind that life does not always work out as planned. When life happens, don’t let that throw you off. Simply adjust your plan and keep going in stride.

  1. Successful people practice healthy self-care habits

Taking care of yourself should always be first priority. Why? You cannot help the world if you cannot help yourself first. Remember the Airplane Rule? This includes making health a priority. Exercising regularly, taking time needed to rest and reflect, sleeping enough and eating healthy foods that energize the body and spirit are all part of a healthy lifestyle.

  1. Successful people are always learning

Whether that include reading books, listening to podcasts or working with a mentor, successful people are always looking for ways to continue learning and improving their mind and spirit. When considering mentorship, work with people who are better than you and each mentor will help you better yourself. Read books and listen to podcasts that are geared towards becoming successful.

  1. Successful people are Frugal but Give Back

Successful people are mindful of their money, and how much they should or should not be spending. By frugal, we do not mean cheap. Which is why successful people also tend to give back to the community. Charity is a hallmark of being rich. Those who are rich and successful give back to their communities and to charities while still maintaining a healthy budget for their own needs.

  1. Successful people take risks

Successful people understand that risks lead to rewards, which is why they are more willing to take risks than others. That doesn’t mean they are ready to jump out of an airplane without a parachute. Successful people take calculated risks, carefully determining the pros and cons of a given risk and then taking the jump knowing how to minimize the potential of possible fallout.

  1. Successful people have self-control

Successful people have self-control over both their time and their emotions. Good relationships are formed through a foundation of friendship and follow through. Successful people know that controlling temper when tensions run high is just as important as controlling their time spent getting work done by big deadlines.

  1. Successful people focus on solutions not problems

Everyone has problems. It is an inevitable part of life (like death and taxes). It’s not about how many problems you are dealt, but how you deal with each problem that matters. Where you focus your attention will determine your emotional state. So do you want to be problem focused or solution focused? Successful people tend to be solution focused, keeping calm in times of crisis and taking productive action that improves performance.

It takes more than just having these seven habits to be successful. For example, successful people know when to say no. They practice positive self-talk. But most important, successful people do not expect perfection. They know that if you spend your whole life trying to be perfect, you will be waiting your whole life. Successful people jump in before they are perfect, and sometimes before they are even ready. And when it’s time to sink or swim, successful people always fight to swim.
